My relationship with digital music: Audio compression and introducing “lossy” to my lexicon.

I recently wrote a piece about an intersection of interests of mine: digital music and algorithms (more specifically, compression algorithms). The article follows my journey through my introduction to mp3s as a format for audio consumption, and discusses the technological intricacies of compression. I also describe how I believe genre tags (think of Rock, Metal, World, etc.) are another site for information compression that I believe is a hindrance to musical exploration.
